How did you first hear about Ascend?

I heard about Ascend at Clubs Fair during frosh week. Karee, the president of the year prior made an announcement in class and both my friend and I got on the exec team together!

How did you become more involved in Ascend and get to your position today?

Ascend allowed me to make more connections and friends in first year – I decided to continue being an executive after first year because of the vibrant culture and I wanted to continue growing my network within campus! I started off as an associate, and became I think that becoming vice president took a lot of hard work and effort to show that you can lead a team, and I’m more of an action/result oriented person, so leading a team was something I definitely wanted to do!

Do you have any tips for first-years who are looking to attend networking events?

I think that although it may be a little intimidating at first, pushing yourself to step out of your comfort zone is very important to be successful. Think of networking as a way of making friends – they’re just normal people! Talking to a variety of people might give you inspiration in terms of career path and life in general as well, so you never know what doors you may open!

Networking is a great experience. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there!
